Artist's Introduction
My art is about creating both black & white and color photography transforming ordinary scenes in urban landscapes into visually lyric, mysterious, nostalgic and visionary compositions. The scenes I choose are often of things and places subject to significant change in relation to the total urban landscape. My pictures are meant to have a narrative that documents our history, culture and society as seen at the time the photographs are taken. The influences in my work come from many photographers: Berenice Abbott, Mary Ellen Mark, Margaret Bourque-White, Andre Kertesz, Edward Stieglitz, Paul Strand, Irving Penn, Man Ray, as well as landscape photographers Edward Weston, Ansel Adams and Bill Eggleston.
